Sound Work

Literacy has evolved, and I don't think schools have adapted to the powerful trends in the way our students read, write and communicate. What facet of life isn't touched by digital technology?

As part of an effort to educate myself to the possibilities of new literacy, I have begun to create sound collages, radio essays, and other projects that utilize digital technology and sounds to construct new meanings. I was lucky to take Jeff Porter's Going Digital class at the Bread Loaf School of English in Santa Fe, NM during summer 2008.

Sample Projects from the Going Digital Class:

NCLB--Are You Sick? by Paul Barnwell

Rhetoric of War by Margie Cooper

Vietnam Compilation by Aishling Falzone

Books on Fire by Courtney Dow

Boston Tea Party by Nick Demarest
