Students on Technology Use
8th grade students at Shelby East Middle School offer the following advice and opinions about technology use in schools.

I know for myself being at one school, then moving to another, that technology does make a huge difference. At my other school the teachers had no kind of technology except for a projector for one to two teachers. Coming to a new school where they have a room full of technology like a smart board and the use of laptops helps. It keeps me focused and ready to learn more. With technology I feel it also enhances you to the real world because now days almost everything involves a computer or some kind of technology so if we are able to use it in school then we will already have some of the techniques for everyday living.

In the end, I am for switching most classrooms to technology-full classrooms. It helps the learning process and gets you more involved to what you’re learning.  Statistics from a website called Education World said that 85% classroom computers improve student performance.  And 74% said that computers improve students’ attention in class. I think from my own experiences and from these statistics that if schools were to switch all their classrooms to smart rooms it would help the students a whole lot more.

If we don’t end up getting computers I hope you will at least consider getting every teacher a digital projector. It would cost less than computers. My band, language arts, algebra, and science class have a digital projector. Personally I pay more attention and learn more when there is a projector. When my algebra teacher uses her digital projector she has a smart board tablet. When she writes on the smart board it shows up on the digital projector so the whole class can see and understand the problem thoroughly.

I personally hope that you will consider letting students use technology more in school. We won’t ruin the computers the first chance we get we are more responsible than you think. Plus when we type and print out things it’s legible, which means it’s easier to grade and some students will get better grades. Lastly we really do work better while using a digital projector, or computers. It’s the 21st century children and teens learn better with technology, it’s the way we grew up.

Technology used in schools has more benefits than detriments. To clarify how important technology is to students, look how we have adapted to our world. So evidently, technology is helpful, not harmful. So if students are used to using technology, and if they are surrounded by it almost all the time, than shouldn’t everyone get the chance to use technology since it’s beneficial?
